Art Journal

Christmas
My topic that I randomly picked were Hope and Your favorite holiday. I decided to do my favorite holiday only because, I'm not to sure what could make for Hope. These layers consists of tissue paper, newspaper, acrylic paint, oil pastel, and water color. On the left are representing the presents under the tree, and obviously the Christmas tree is on the right side.

Artist develop Art making skills
Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work for this project?
Did you gain skill with familiar materials?
Yes I learned how to use tissue paper in this way. Such as how to make it stick to the paper, etc. Learned that art can be made with different materials in layers. Lots of layers!!! I think I gained more skill with acrylic paint because, I never used paint that much. However this time I think I nailed it!!!!

Artists communicate through their work
What is the artwork intended to say?
What issues are you examining through your artwork?
How is this art work about who you are or what you like?
My artwork is intended to say that Christmas is my favorite holiday and time of year. And I'm pretty sure it's with a lot of people as well. Some issues I'm just now noticing is that I was going to make ribbons on the presents but I guess I forgot. Making mistakes is the only way to succeed in the future. This artwork is what I like (reasons have already stated in the post).

Land art

Land Art Series
Artists Create Original Art
How do you use your own unique ideas in your work?
Did you use a source for inspiration, then combine it with your own ideas to make it original?

A good example of this would be the hangman piece and the crab. Before class that day me and my friend were playing hangman at the end of class. During class I decided to be a hangman board/set out of leaves, I  wasn't sure if it would look good or not. I think it turned out pretty well.

My other piece (crab) was inspired by someone talking about Mr.Krabs in spongebob. Then I decided to make a crab out those leaves as well. My land art isn't probably as good as anyone else's. However I am a very busy person when I'm not in art class.

Artist Reflec
When did you take a step back and analyze your work during this project?
Did you consider your ideas before you tried them?
I took a step back when I was in the process of making other pieces. But then I thought they wouldn't be fun to look at or observe. It wasn't original it was really plain and basic.
These are the bad ones:
  Yeah that was terrible.
No, I did not consider my ideas before I tried them. As you can see I sort of rushed through them, I didn't my time. If I could do it again, I most definitely would've.

Relief Piece/ Sculpture Project

A caterpillar turning into a butterfly

Artists Takes Risks

Yes, I used strings of yarn for my relief piece. And if you don't know what relief is, it is a flat background with bumps on it. The bumps are there to stick out. The color of it is used from oil pastel.

Artist Develop Art Making Skills

I learned how to shape yarn into familiar objects such as the butterfly, caterpillar, etc. And I used oil pastel for the first time. And I go to say that its is very easy to use. I feel like I gained more skill with oil pastel than the yarn because, my yarn is a little messy.

Shibori art post

The pieces of Shibori art i'm about to show you is by an artist named Michael Smith. Michael Smith is a Shibori artist who makes fashion designs and patterns. Michael Smith is from Washington D.C and his birthday is September 30.

Here are some of pieces
  Shibori Detail

I think the type of style he uses in his dyes is Suji dye. I can tell by how the patterns are arranged and sorta all over the place. His artwork is more gallery design. Just imagine a bunch of these in a gallery than a retail. I picked Michael smith because, his work caught my attention more than the other artists work. What attracted me to the work is the difference in the colors in some sections.

Perspective

My perspective project has a picture of the Greensboro Aquatic Center. This piece is a two point perspective because, it's on the horizon. This is what fuels me.
Why this?
As you probably know I'm a swimmer. Only five people in my family swim including me, I have watched the ACC championship meet here to watch my cousin swim, and most of my swim meets takes place in this center. My cousin has qualified for the 2016 Olympic trials.

Artist Communicate Through their work
1) The is artwork is intended to say that this is what my life is and where it happens
2) The issues that I see in this artwork is the lack of detail within the drawing of the Greensboro Aquatic Center
3) This artwork tells you that I am a swimmer and I love to swim most of my time

Artists take risks
1) I tried something I wasn't too sure of, which was making the road sloppy, the center not white, etc.
2) I didn't try anything new, once again I am more comfortable with color pencils than any other materials

Art History Project

The piece my group did is called the "Breakfast Scene". This painting is about one women and three men having breakfast. The thing is that they are all drunk. It was created during the Baroque movement; during this time period everything was very artistic such as music, plays, painting, etc.

What each person did:
Johanna: Filled in the form with the information about this piece.
Kaitlin & Callie: Worked on the powerpoint together
Kyle (Me) : sketched out the background for the video
All of us painted the back ground

If I were to do this project again, I would...

  • Make the background better
  • Help with everything else
  • Spend more on planning this.
  • Give more detail on the sketches
  • Get bigger cardboard

Portrait

Artists collaborate
Did you ask another student for feedback during your work process?
I did ask another student for feedback. The reason why I asked her is because, she knew who my friend was.

Did someone help you understand important information or inspire you?
That person did help me because, she said it looked a lot like him. And thats all I wanted to here because, thats what I was aiming for.

Artists Develop Art Making skills
Did you learn new techniques or processes as part of the work for this project?
I learned how to make the face proportional, where each thing goes, and how to shape the face the perfect size.

Did you gain skill with familiar materials?
I definitely think that I have improved with my materials over the past quarter in the Art class. I've had a blast. This class helps me clear my head.

Make a GIF mini project

How does this GIF relate to me?
IT DOESN'T at all. Im a swimmer and swimming is my life, but the problem was that I couldn't draw someone swimming over and over again. The reason I see a basket ball going through a hoop instead is because, I thought it would be simple , however I do like to watch basketball. That is another reason why I decided to do this.

Sorry if this wasn't my best blog post, I'm not feeling too good :(

Flappy Bird (Printmaking Project)

Flappy Bird Pop Art
 Artist take risks:
While making this piece I wasn't too sure of how the carving worked. It was very difficult to try and carve everything out because at times it got close to carving over or above the lines. Sometimes I had trouble carving out the little parts of this. But it turned out better than I thought.
Both material and techniques were unfamiliar and new to me. Basically EVERYTHING was new to me because, I have never put my hands on these things until now.
Artist Reflect:
In the process of making my piece, I looked back to think how my print would turn out, I started asking people how it would turn out if I did this and that. Then I took people answers into consideration, and it turned out to help me a lot.
But before I started I did not consider how my idea would work in this print. So thats why I asked people for some guidance.
Why this?
I choose to make a flappy bird pop art because, it is very popular on the app store, and most people would recognize it when they see it.

Origami Piece

A swan in its nest

Artists reflect.
- analyze work and process
When did you step back and analyze you work during this project?
During my paper folding process I seemed to struggle on my shape part of my origami piece. The shape had nothing to do with the theme of my Origami, besides the fact I couldn't get another piece of  cardboard. Honestly my folding skills are a little rusty.

Artists take risks.
- try new things
- experiment
Did you try something that you weren’t sure about as part of this project?
Did you pick a material or technique that was new or different over something that was familiar?
I tried to make a nest with out using techniques, instead I just crumbled up the paper and shaped it like a nest, and I cut little slips of paper to make the nest more realistic.

My Meme

What was my first definition of the word "Art"?
Before when Ms.Sudkamp asked us what our definition of art or what we think what art means. I said its a way of expressing someones feelings, emotions, personality, etc. On a piece of paper or canvas. But what I think Art means now is whatever you consider to be art. Which basically means when you complete a piece, you can decide whether or not its art, like a personal opinion. And the majority of my table group has agreed on that's what Art means.

Color Project

In Progress

Sorry I can't rotate the picture!
The theme I have picked for my color project is disguise and if you can't see look very close. You will see two people blending in with the wall in front of the club. Those two people are police watching the bar to see if anything goes wrong. The medium I am using is color pencil. And like I've explained in my other post, I am more comfortable with pencils rather than other mediums used for art. I have had some difficulties with being symmetrical with the blocks on the front of the club. Some look like squares and some look like rectangles. But  I don't think it will be that big of a problem.

Final

I think my piece was successful in incorporating the disguise theme. And from the comments people left in class about my piece, I'd say that this was a job well done.My favorite comment: " I like how the people blend in with the wall, and it is very original",  I'm mostly proud of how I made those people blend in with the wall, it definitely took along time to make that work, so people can see it a little bit more than I intended. The only thing I would change would be making all the squares symmetrical with one another. What I've learned is that you can still have fun with this even though it takes along time to do.

2 in 1 project

In Progress
My idea for the two in one project is a lollipop snail. This drawing has basically a snail on a stick with a shell of a lolipop. The medium or material I am using is a graphite pencil and a charcoal pencil. The reason i'm using these materials is because I find myself more precise when holding a pencil. I have started on my piece and so far there are no problems, I am making great progress in terms of finishing. Hopefully by the end of this week.
Finished
I thought that my piece of art was successful because, it was better than anything I ever drew in my life. The areas of this piece that I'm most proud of is the outlines of the snail, and the shadow towards the right of the snail. If was to change one thing though it would probably be the snails eyes because, if you look closer, the eyes are not really that detailed. I definitely wish I saw that when I finished. Obviously I have incorporated the "two in one" theme because, the shell of the snail is a lollipop, with a stick holding it.

I hope you liked this piece Ms. Sudkamp
